1. Information We Collect

When you create a PrepWell account, we collect and store your email address and authentication credentials. The content you create — including recipes, meal plans, pantry items, grocery lists, personal notes, and ratings — is stored securely in our database and associated with your account. We also collect technical data automatically, such as your device type, browser version, and usage logs, to maintain and improve the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to: (a) provide, maintain, and improve the Service; (b) sync your data across devices; (c) manage your account; (d) power AI features such as recipe import and nutrition estimation; (e) send you service-related notifications, such as timer alerts or subscription status updates; (f) detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or abuse; and (g) comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

3. Payment Information

PrepWell offers subscription plans (Monthly, Yearly, and Lifetime). Payments are processed securely through Base44 Payments, a payment service powered by Wix. When you make a purchase, you are redirected to a secure Wix-hosted checkout page where you enter your payment details. We never collect, store, or have access to your credit card number, CVV, or full payment credentials — those are handled entirely by Wix under their own security and privacy standards. We only receive your subscription status, the plan you purchased, and the email address you provided at checkout so we can link the purchase to your account. Your subscription auto-renews and can be cancelled at any time from your account settings.

4. AI and Third-Party Services

PrepWell uses artificial intelligence services to power features like recipe URL import, nutrition estimation, and batch processing. When you use these features, relevant data — such as recipe URLs, ingredient lists, and preparation instructions — is sent to these AI providers for processing. This data is used solely to generate the requested output and is not used by us or our providers for unrelated purposes. We also rely on third-party cloud infrastructure providers to store and serve your data.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

PrepWell uses browser local storage to remember your preferences and improve your experience — for example, remembering that you have dismissed the onboarding guide, or retaining your place in Cook Mode. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. Your authentication session uses secure tokens managed by our platform.

6. Data Security

Your data is protected by row-level security (RLS), which ensures that each user can only access their own recipes, meal plans, pantry items, and other content. No other user can view or modify your data. Administrative access is restricted to authorized personnel for support and maintenance purposes only. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We may share your information only in the following circumstances: (a) with service providers who help us operate the Service (payment processors, AI providers, cloud infrastructure), under strict data protection agreements; (b) to comply with legal obligations, court orders, or government requests; (c) to protect the rights, property, or safety of PrepWell, our users, or others; or (d) in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the same privacy protections.

8. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete individual items — such as a recipe, meal plan entry, or pantry item — they are permanently removed from our database. If you delete your account entirely, all associated data is permanently deleted within 30 days. We may retain certain data in backup systems for a limited period as required for disaster recovery, after which it is also permanently deleted.

9. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data: (a) the right to access — request a copy of your data; (b) the right to rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data; (c) the right to erasure — request deletion of your data; (d) the right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format; (e) the right to object — object to certain processing of your data; and (f) the right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on your consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the app's support channels.

10. GDPR (European Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We process your data on the following legal bases: (a) performance of a contract — to provide the Service you requested; (b) legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the Service; (c) consent — for optional features like notifications; and (d) legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we have not handled your data appropriately.

11. CCPA (California Users)

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal data we collect, the right to request deletion of your personal data, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal data. We do not sell personal data as defined by the CCPA. To exercise your CCPA rights, contact us through the app's support channels.

12. Children's Privacy

PrepWell is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete that information. Users between 13 and 18 may use the Service with parental or guardian consent.

13. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including the United States. When we transfer data internationally, we take appropriate measures to ensure it receives a comparable level of protection, in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

14. Notifications

When you use Cook Mode, PrepWell may request permission to send you browser notifications (such as timer completion alerts). These notifications are processed locally by your browser and do not involve transmitting additional personal data to our servers. You can manage or revoke notification permissions at any time through your browser settings.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. We will notify users of material changes through the app or via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

16. Contact

If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact us through the app's support channels. We are committed to addressing privacy inquiries promptly and transparently.
